Course Outline
Mindmapping
The first class will focus on guiding students to think so that they can begin to organize the content of their personal statements. Through this method, students can put the core topic at the center and expand on the related concepts, ideas and details to help them understand and plan the content of their personal statement more clearly. The course will cover techniques for creating effective mind maps, including how to select keywords, categorize information, and expand ideas to improve the organization and creativity of your writing. This technique can not only help students clarify their thoughts, but also inspire more unique content and lay a solid foundation for subsequent writing.
Content
In lessons 2-3, students will learn how to plan and develop the content of a personal statement, ensuring that the essay has a clear core theme and rich details. Students will be guided through the process of identifying experiences and skills that demonstrate their personal characteristics and using vivid stories and concrete examples to enhance their persuasiveness. In addition, students will learn to incorporate professional knowledge, avoid empty or repetitive content, and master transition techniques between paragraphs to make the entire article flow smoothly. These content planning techniques will help students create personal statements with depth and highlights, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of their applications.
Drafting and Redrafting
The fourth to sixth classes mainly focus on helping students gradually improve their personal statements. Students will start by writing a first draft, learning how to fully present the previously planned content, and then conduct self-evaluation and reflection to find out the highlights and shortcomings of the content. Students are also encouraged to seek feedback from peers or tutors, make multiple revisions, and focus on polishing the language and improving the details to enhance the professionalism and appeal of the article. Finally, students will go through multiple revisions and carefully polish the final version of their personal statement to ensure that the content of the article is complete, fluent and persuasive, adding a competitive advantage to their application.
